The UMW Archaeology Lab manages multiple collections generated over more than 40 years of archaeological research, which are available for study, loan, and student research projects.

The collections held at the UMW Archaeology Lab have been amassed from more than 100 past projects within the Chesapeake region of Virginia and the greater Fredericksburg area. These collections encompass both past cultural resource management projects conducted by the Center for Historic Preservation and academic projects carried out through the Department of Historic Preservation.

Artifacts from many of our past projects are stored within the lab at Combs Hall and a separate on-campus repository. Beyond artifacts, the collections include associated documentation, maps, photographs, drawings, and masonry and soil samples.
