Since 2006, the UMW Archaeology Lab has been staffed by the Department of Historic Preservation’s Historical Archaeology faculty member, who serves as the Lab Director, and two undergraduate student aides.

Katherine G. Parker
Assistant Professor, Department of Historic Preservation

Dr. Parker is the current Lab Director and an assistant professor of historical archaeology in the Department of Historic Preservation. In addition to teaching archaeological method and theory courses in the department, Dr. Parker supervises ongoing archaeological research projects and oversees the collections housed at the UMW Archaeology Lab.

Jackson Daniels
Historic Preservation and GISC Certificate (Class of ’25)

Student Lab Aide, 2024 – Present

Jackson is a senior majoring in Historic Preservation with a GISC Certificate at UMW. Jackson assists new and returning lab volunteers in a variety of tasks and helps oversee the lab’s digital collections content. He is also instrumental in supporting geospatial data analysis for legacy projects from the Center for Historic Preservation and for active data collection projects with our Trimble DA2 Catalyst GNSS units.

Naomi Trout
Classical Archaeology (Class of ’25)

Naomi is a senior majoring in Classical Archaeology at UMW. Naomi assists new and returning lab volunteers in a variety of tasks and helps with curation preparation, legacy collection management, and coordinating archaeology lab events.
